Sugar Cookies

These sugar cookies I got from a close friend. It was her grandmas recipe and they are the best sugar cookies I have ever had.

Ingridents

Dough

  • 1/2 cup shortening

  • 3/4 cups sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1/2 teaspoon grated orange peel

  • 2 cups flour

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 2-3 tablespoons of milk

Frosting

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 1 tablespoon milk

  • 2 teaspoons corn starch

  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla

Instrustions

Cookies Dough

  1. In a large bowl, combine shortening and sugar. Mix until it looks and feels like wet sand.

  2. Add the vanilla, egg, and orange peel to the sugar mixture.

  3. In a separate bowl combine flour, salt, and baking powder.

  4. Slowly add the flour mixture to the sugar mixture, and mix until it becomes a dough.

  5. If the dough is crumbly, add milk a little at a time, until it comes together. (make sure dough is not too sticky).

  6. Refrigerate dough for at least an hour.

  7. Preheat oven to 375. Roll and cut out cookies into the shapes you like. Bake for about 12 minutes.

  8. Let cookies cool and frost.

Frosting

  1. Add the powdered sugar, milk, corn starch, and vanilla into a bowl and mix until the desired consistency is reached. (May need to add more sugar or milk).

  2. Add food coloring until you reach your desired color.
